Political Action

New Jersey Firearm Owners Syndicate was formed as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit. Most public charities organize themselves as 501(c)(3) nonprofits which allows donors to receive a tax deduction for that charitable donation. However, 501(c)(3) organizations are heavily restricted regarding the political activity they are permitted to engage in. While donations to NJFOS are not tax deductible, being organized as a (c)(4) allows us to engage in lobbying on behalf of our members and it allows us to both make political contributions, establish PACs and Super PACs, and collect political donations.

Our goal is to continue to support litigation and legal challenges to the long list of unconstitutional gun laws in this state. However, unless we work to change the landscape in Trenton, the assault on our rights in New Jersey will never end.

Moreover, states like New Jersey have become incubators for gun control that spreads like cancer to the rest of the country. That cancer must be taken out at the root.

What are we doing about it?

We have been working behind the scenes to identify pro-2A candidates in key legislative districts across the state. Our criteria are simple: Candidates must demonstrate a clear commitment to preserving and protecting the right to keep and bear arms. They must also be willing to take the NRA and GOA questionnaires and obtain A ratings. Finally, they must be running in a competitive district.

  • We are coordinating support for candidates in key districts with our national partners, including NRA-ILA and GOA.
  • We will publicly endorse candidates and encourage our members in those districts to vote for those candidates.
  • We will provide direct financial support to campaigns and PACs that align with our values and political goals.
  • We will coordinate volunteers among our membership to work directly with these campaigns and PACs. Endorsements help, donations help, but our most powerful resource is direct, grassroots activism from our members.
  • Our goal also includes educating our elected officials on the right to keep and bear arms and advancing positive legislation for our Second Amendment rights. But until we make up more ground in the Capitol there is only so far we can go in fighting gun control.
  • Changing election outcomes is our top priority.

To help accomplish these goals, we are creating a separate fund to collect donations for our political efforts. This will be completely separate from our main fund which will primarily be used to advance litigation.
